How UK supporters helped us begin a Sunday School programme in the slums of Nairobi

With thanks to the generosity of our donors, including Hymns Ancient & Modern Charity, Kids Alive Kenya have been able to begin a Sunday School programme in the slums of Nairobi. Working alongside churches and schools, our Community Hope Centre is situated in the middle of Africa’s largest slum network – home to an estimated 2.5 million people.

As well as meeting basic needs, offering family support and trauma care, and helping with ‘stay in school’ initiatives, we have now been able to offer a Sunday School programme. This adds further support to our programme, by enabling us to feed children on a Sunday as well, and for parents to give their children a safe place to go.

Our Community Hope Centre is situated in the heart of Nairobi's three main slums. We use this location as a base to support vulnerable families. At the centre, we provide a safe space for children to have fun, learn about Jesus, and receive educational support, love, and Christian care.

We collaborate closely with local schools and churches to help children get back on track with their education, aiming to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness.

Additionally, we work closely with the families, particularly single mothers who have been victims of abuse and poor parenting. We empower them by providing training in livelihoods, parenting skills, trauma care, and spiritual guidance.
