Recently from the national director in Kenya: “This week I was moved to tears by a card I received. It was really no more than a rough, torn piece of paper with a message written in crayon. The card was made my one of the young girls that we rescued from sexual abuse. Her maternal uncle had been violating her for as long as she could remember. Her grandmother, with whom she lived, had instructed her never to say a word to anyone. She lived in fear, haunted by this monster hovering around her on a daily basis. Then Kids Alive came to her rescue and is now physically healed, emotionally healing and beginning to turn to Christ. On arrival at our children’s home, she wondered why God had ‘failed’ to protect her and wanted to hear nothing about Him. Now, she is inspired by the love of Christ that she receives daily through her ‘siblings’. The card carried very simple words: “Dear Mum. I love you. Thank you!”
This is now an empowered girl, a future fighter of injustice.”
This is a life changed beyond recognition. A life of promise. A young child who now has genuine hope and opportunities for a future. Pray with us that, irrespective of the squalor and suffering, we will have the privilege of working with many more children like Sarah (name changed for privacy). Children whose lives have been transformed. And who, in turn, will play a part in bringing about transformation in their families, communities, workplaces – and their nation – in the future!
