Sponsor Leslie through school in one of Dominican Republic's toughest regions
Leslie is an adorable 4-year-old from a fragile region of the Dominican Republic. She is thoroughly enjoying pre-school with us and loves doing crafts, especially making shapes with play dough. Her favourite animals are rabbits and her favourite colour is green. By sponsoring Leslie, you will ensure she continues with her education in a great Kids Alive Christian school, as well as free food, trauma care and family support. For privacy reasons we have blurred this image of Leslie but we will provide a clear photo should you decide to sponsor her.
Why Leslie needs you to sponsor her

Leslie is from an especially difficult region in the Dominican Republic (DR), which is not only very poor, but is also a hotspot of violence against women and children, as well as child marriage, drugs, gangs and child labour.

To make matters worse, the education system in the DR has all but collapsed and it consistently scores as the worst country* in South America for a child to go to school to (*of those that collate data, see the chart below).
How your sponsorship will transform Leslie's life

Your sponsorship will fund Leslie’s entire education at our amazing Palo Blanco school in Jarabacoa, including free food, trauma counselling and family support. All in a loving Christian environment with daily devotions, Bible studies and prayer.

You will receive twice yearly updates about Leslie and you can send her messages, especially on her birthday and at Christmas (research has shown that children with sponsors tend to do better due to an increased sense of self-worth and general wellbeing).

In the DR, only 1% achieve a 'satisfactory' level and above in mathematics by the time they leave primary school!
The chart below is an example of how DR scores in terms of academic achievement against other countries in South America (source UNESCO), demonstrating just how bad things are. It shows the % of year 6 students achieving a satisfactory level and above in the three key subject areas.

Thank you for sponsoring one of the world's most vulnerable children!
